 Analytical Services

pt environmental has over 30 years experience in the analytical field. Over 20 years were spent on the bench carrying out routine analyses and adhoc bench top trials for a variety of tests and clients.  Some examples of recent experience are listed below.

Examples of Previous Experience

Laboratory Induction Training

A presentation was prepared for the induction of staff to enable them to be inducted into their respective small laboratory facilities.

Titration Curves Investigation on Mine waste water

The generation of three titration curves for samples of acid and metalliferous drainage (AMD) from a mine site in south Australia using NaOH, Ca(OH)2  and Ba(OH)2 were carried out. In addition a selection of major ions and heavy metals were analysed for a selection of pH and treatment processes.

Validation of Treatment System

A small Melbourne based company is an importer of an electrolysis-based sanitising system.  The system is used to sanitise water in high risk environments such as restaurants, hospitals and food processing plants.  The system is an alternative to traditional disinfectant or detergent products.  As part of the product marketing and approvals process, the client required to have laboratory trials and a scientific report examining and comparing the potential effects of this system and representative sample of other sanitising and disinfectant agents on the wastewater system.

Jar Testing Trials

Several jar testing trials were carried out using ferric chloride. Observations were made and laboratory tests were carried out on several discrete portions of the settled sample. Based on the information gathered from the initial trial further settling trials were carried out on the sample using the preferred dose rate.

Water Treatment Assessment

A client required us to carry out an investigation into the efficiency of an Electroflocculation System to treat contaminated water. Synthetic water was produced from a quantity of clay and soil, dog faeces and water containing concentrated algae. The homogenous solution was treated and samples were taken of the resulting water. A report was provided with the findings and recommendations.

Grey Water Treatment System Report

A client required some initial process testing and ultimately validation of a greywater treatment system to a nationally acceptable standard for domestic and decentralised systems. A synthetic solution was processed through the system to gauge the treatment efficiency. A report was provided outlining the findings from the initial process testing and accompanying assistance with process improvement.

Barley Straw Investigation

A client required us to carry out an investigation into the decomposition of barley straw in the Sewage Treatment Plant’s (STP) storage lagoon and the effect of the released compounds on the Class A recycled water and to investigate any potential mechanisms of action if required. A laboratory scale experiment was carried out to determine if the barley straw produced chemicals or toxins either through reaction or dissolution. A report of the findings and recommendations was presented.

Jar testing trials

A client required several Sludge Settling Tests to be carried out. Several test solutions from several Extended Aeration (EA) tanks were supplied for testing.

Taste and odour training programs

A client requested us to provide basic training course in taste and odour analyses. Training for taste and odour analyses using known synthetic sources and known samples of different qualities were provided for the program. An assessment program was carried out to appraise the suitability of the person to be part of a permanent taste and odour panel.
